Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Science Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will lead the design, analysis, investigation, and assessment of building envelope systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects. This position combines technical design, field review, forensic investigation, and client consultation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design building envelope and environmental separation details for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential buildings.
- Utilize engineering principles and specialized software to analyze heat flow, air movement, vapour diffusion, and bulk water movement through wall, roof, and foundation assemblies.
- Attend active construction sites to review the installation of building envelope systems and provide field observations and recommendations.
- Lead forensic investigations of building envelope failures, identify root causes, and develop practical repair strategies.
- Complete condition assessments of existing buildings and prepare detailed technical reports.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligible for immediate registration.
- Minimum of five years of experience in building science, building envelope consulting, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, building science principles, and mechanics of materials.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience using HAM Toolbox, WUFI, THERM, and eQuest.
- Construction experience is considered a strong asset.
