Position Summary

The Vice Principal of St. Dominic Catholic High School serves as a Catholic faith leader who supports the Principal in fostering a Christ-centered learning community where students are inspired to grow spiritually, academically, socially, culturally, and physically. The Vice Principal contributes to the school's mission by promoting student achievement, supporting staff development, maintaining a safe and caring learning environment, and strengthening relationships with families, parish, and the broader community.

As a member of the Confluence Campus community, the Vice Principal works collaboratively with educational partners to ensure positive learning experiences and opportunities for all students while upholding the mission, vision, and values of Catholic education.

Key Responsibilities

Catholic Faith Leadership

  • Demonstrate and model a vibrant commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
  • Support the Principal in nurturing a faith-filled school culture rooted in Gospel values.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with local parishes and clergy.
  • Encourage students and staff to permeate faith into daily learning and school life.
  • Support initiatives that promote Catholic social teaching, service, and stewardship.

Instructional Leadership

  • Support the implementation of the Alberta curriculum and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools' educational priorities.
  • Promote high-quality teaching and learning practices that improve student achievement and engagement.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and supporting interventions that lead to student success.
  • Support professional growth and collaborative learning among staff.
  • Encourage innovative instructional practices and effective use of educational technology.
  • Assist in analyzing achievement data to inform school improvement planning.

Student Success and Well-Being

  • Foster a safe, caring, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support student attendance, engagement, achievement, and graduation success.
  • Lead and support student discipline processes using restorative and relationship-centered approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counsellors, families, and support staff to address student needs.
  • Support inclusive education practices and student programming.
  • Promote student leadership, extracurricular involvement, and school spirit.

School Operations and Administration

  • Assist the Principal in the day-to-day operation of the school.
  • Support school supervision, scheduling, timetabling, and operational planning.
  • Coordinate and oversee assigned school programs and initiatives.
  • Support emergency preparedness, safety procedures, and risk management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial legislation, division policies, and administrative procedures.
  • Assist with staffing processes, supervision, and evaluation as delegated by the Principal.

Collaborative Leadership

  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Support open, respectful, and transparent communication throughout the school community.
  • Work collaboratively with Confluence Campus partners to enhance educational opportunities for students.
  • Participate actively in division leadership meetings and professional learning opportunities.
  • Support school improvement planning and the achievement of division goals.

Community and Family Engagement

  • Foster meaningful partnerships with parents and guardians in support of student learning and well-being.
  • Represent the school positively within the Rocky Mountain House community.
  • Promote opportunities for family engagement, volunteerism, and community involvement.
  • Support communication strategies that celebrate student success and school achievements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold or be eligible for Alberta Leadership Certification.
  • Hold a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Be a practicing Catholic committed to the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Demonstrate successful teaching experience and a record of instructional leadership.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships.
  • Exhibit a commitment to student-centered decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Have experience supporting inclusive learning environments and diverse student needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal faith formation and professional growth.
