Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker - Dryden, Ontario - CAD$225.00/week

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a gentleman living independently on a farm near Barbs Corners, halfway between Dryden and Ignace. He is experiencing cognitive decline with dementia-like symptoms and requires support to maintain his quality of life at home. He sleeps until mid-afternoon most days, moves very slowly, and can be quite stubborn. While he appreciates help and is generally cooperative, he no longer recognizes family members consistently and refers to his son and daughter-in-law as "the couple who lives in the house." He does not wander or attempt to use the stove, but spends considerable time straightening items around the house in a repetitive manner. He takes short walks outside but does not get lost. His family is committed to keeping him comfortable and safe in his longtime home.

Provide personal care assistance including prompting and supporting bathing and showering, which he is reluctant to do independently. Prepare nutritious meals and provide feeding support as needed, as he currently only snacks on treats like ice cream and rarely eats proper meals. Monitor and remind him to take his medications, allowing extra time as this process can take 20+ minutes due to his slow pace. Perform light housekeeping including cleaning and laundry to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment. Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection to help him stay oriented and engaged. Encourage hydration and nutrition throughout the visit, as he often forgets to eat or drink without reminders.

What We're Looking For:

A patient, calm caregiver who can work effectively with someone who is very slow-moving and stubborn. Someone who makes the client feel comfortable and brings positive energy to each visit. A reliable and consistent presence who takes initiative, communicates clearly with the family, and has experience supporting individuals with cognitive decline or dementia. Female caregivers are strongly preferred. Must be comfortable working in a rural farm setting and able to travel to the location independently.

Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on a recurring weekly basis. Flexibility with specific days is appreciated as the family works to coordinate with existing publicly funded care services.
