Overview

Reporting to the Health Promoter, the Health Promotion Activities Lead supports the implementation of health and wellness initiatives that enhance student well-being across Lakehead University Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. Guided by the Student Health and Wellness Health Promotion Strategy, the successful candidate will coordinate and deliver engaging health promotion programming, foster campus and community partnerships, and support peer-led wellness initiatives that contribute to a healthy and inclusive campus environment.

Responsibilities

Health Promotion and Program Delivery

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver a variety of health and wellness events, campaigns, and educational initiatives, including awareness weeks, health fairs, wellness workshops, and mental health promotion activities.
  • Develop and implement creative programming that promotes student engagement and awareness of Student Health and Wellness services.
  • Coordinate and promote access to community health resources and services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support student health and wellness priorities.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational workshops, presentations, and health literacy initiatives.
  • Develop promotional materials and support communications through digital and print platforms.
  • Implement strategies to increase participation and engagement among diverse student populations.

Peer Wellness Program Support

  • Assist with the coordination of Peer Wellness Educators, Peer Wellness Leads, and volunteers.
  • Support recruitment, orientation, training, mentorship, and ongoing development of peer wellness team members.
  • Assist with scheduling and oversight of peer-led wellness activities.
  • Serve as a resource and support for student leaders involved in wellness programming.

Administration and Evaluation

  • Participate in team meetings, advisory groups, and campus committees.
  • Complete activity reports and assist with program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain educational resources and promotional materials.
  • Support inventory management and distribution of health promotion resources.
  • Gather and compile information to support the development of wellness resources and programming.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Health Promotion, Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, or a related field.
  • Experience planning and delivering educational programs, events, or health promotion initiatives.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or leading volunteers, peer educators, or student staff is considered an asset.
  • Event planning and community engagement experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of the health and wellness needs of diverse post-secondary student populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and student-centered service delivery.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
