The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).

Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor(s) of Court Services, the Court Administration Clerk (CAC) is responsible to provide court administration services in the Provincial Offences Court in accordance with provincial legislation, directives, and operational guidelines. Specifically, this position receives inquiries, requests and/or complaints through various channels of communication, processes charging documents, sets trial dates, processes fine payments, and ensures court records are updated accurately in the Provincial Computer System. The position is also responsible to assist the Appeal Court in the appeal process for matters tried within the Provincial Offences Court as well as transfers e-files to thirdparty collection agencies. Overall, this position plays an integral role in supporting the administration of Provincial Offences Court processes and ensuring that the integrity of the Ontario Court of Justice system is maintained.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • One (1) year College Certificate in Office Administration, Court Support Services or related discipline

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrated experience in a customer service, cash handling office environment

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Statutes applicable to court administration including but not limited to Provincial Offences Act, Highway Traffic Act, Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act, and the Courts of Justice Act.
  • Demonstrated Ability to:
    • multitask and problem solve
    • accurately keyboard at least 40 words per minute
    • address all contacts in a courteous, friendly and efficient manner to promote a high standard of public relations at all times
    • keep personal or situational information confidential
    • utilize general office equipment (computers, printer, various software applications, phone, adding machines, photocopier/scanner, debit/credit card POS terminals etc.)
    • work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Intermediate skills include: Customer Service; Interpersonal; Organizational; Verbal Communication; Written Communication
  • Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook etc.)

Other Important Information Location: Legislative and Court Services, 45 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie, ON

Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2026 pay range:

    • Pay Level: Level 5
    • Yearly Salary: $61,152.00 to $73,236.80
    • Hourly Pay Rate: $33.60 to $40.24
