Legal Assistant - Business Law (Tax)
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Business Law Practice Group supporting our tax team. This role will provide high-level administrative and legal support to lawyers working on complex business law and tax matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, format, and revise correspondence, tax memoranda, and legal documents
- Assist with corporate reorganizations, tax planning files, and related documentation
- Open, maintain, and organize client files (physical and electronic)
- Coordinate client communications, meetings, and document execution
- Manage calendars, deadlines, and bring-forward systems to ensure timely completion of work
- Conduct general administrative tasks, including billing support, file closing, and document management
- Liaise with clients, accountants, and other external professionals
- Support compliance with internal processes and Law Society requirements
- Respond promptly to client needs
- Work a team environment sharing workloads and files
- File management including opening, closing and maintaining document management
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Experience in tax is an asset
- 1+ years of experience in Business Law
- Knowledge of NetDocuments or other document managements systems is an asset
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- A high level of skill in verbal and written communication
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic and bustling practice
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
