Position: Associate, Commercial Litigation (5+ years)

SKS Law LLP is seeking a commercial litigation lawyer to join our Ottawa office. This role is ideal for a confident, practical advocate who enjoys working closely with business clients, managing sophisticated disputes, and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Manage litigation files from initial assessment through resolution, including pleadings, discoveries, motions, mediations, arbitrations, settlements, and trial preparation.
- Provide strategic, practical advice to business clients on litigation risk, dispute resolution options, and case strategy.
- Draft high-quality pleadings, motion materials, briefs, and other court or tribunal documents.
- Appear before courts, tribunals, mediators, and arbitrators, as appropriate.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive, business-minded service.
- Work closely with colleagues across the firm to deliver practical, coordinated advice.
- Collaborate with lawyers, students and legal support staff and contribute to a collegial team environment.
- Contribute to practice development and client growth initiatives, where appropriate.
Qualifications
- LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of litigation experience, ideally with significant exposure to commercial disputes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation matters with a high degree of independence.
- Excellent drafting, advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced practice.
- Experience supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a collaborative practice is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required; French-English bilingualism is an asset.
