Job Title: Environmental Monitoring Field Support

Location: Kitimat, BC

Length: End of 2026 (with potential extension)

Rotation: 5 days on / 2 days off

Role Summary

Provide field-based environmental monitoring and data support for the Stockpile Pond / TSS Control Improvement Project, with emphasis on water sampling, in-situ monitoring, TSS/turbidity tracking, field observations, and daily data entry/reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Stockpile Pond TSS monitoring before and after mitigation work, including turbidity/TSS trend tracking and documenting improvement effectiveness.
  • Support the Stockpile TSS Control Improvement Project, including Area 1 progress tracking, weekly updates, scope completion status, and timeline reporting.
  • Perform extensive data entry into trackers/spreadsheets and prepare clear daily/weekly summaries for Environment team review.
  • Conduct daily/regular in-situ water monitoring for basins, U-ditches, ETP pond, CDF ponds, and POC, including temperature, TRC, pH, turbidity, TSS, conductivity, DO, sheen, basin level, freeboard, and status tracking.
  • Document field conditions such as elevated turbidity, elevated chlorine, pH excursions, algae blooms, U-ditch backup, straw wattle condition, discharge status, and any visible sheen.
  • Coordinate with contractors and internal teams on stockpile, ditch, culvert, and straw wattle activities and provide field feedback on environmental controls.
  • Support preparation of environmental SOPs / procedures related to effluent monitoring and management, as required.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) – required.
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field – an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) – required.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certification – an asset (or willingness to obtain).
  • WHMIS certification – an asset (or willingness to obtain).
  • Site-specific safety training/orientation to be completed prior to or upon mobilization.

Skills & Attributes

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic Excel and data-entry proficiency is a must.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in the field on an active industrial site, in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to record/enter data accurately.
  • Ability to understand and follow LNG Canada HSSE requirements and field protocols.
  • Good written communication skills for clear, concise daily/weekly updates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous water sampling or environmental monitoring experience.
  • Familiarity with pH, turbidity, TRC, TSS, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and the use of field meters and handheld instruments.
  • Experience with stormwater, effluent, pond, ditch, or construction-runoff monitoring.
  • Experience supporting construction/maintenance interfaces and environmental controls such as straw wattles, culverts, ditch cleanout, and sediment control.
  • Familiarity with BC environmental regulations and permit/discharge requirements – an asset.

Utilization / Main Workload

This person will be fully utilized on the Stockpile Pond / TSS Control Improvement Project, with secondary support for basin/effluent monitoring and significant data-entry/reporting responsibilities. The primary project focus is reducing TSS/turbidity impacts into the Stockpile Pond and demonstrating before/after improvement through field data.
