Lakeland Catholic School Division is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join Saint Dominic Elementary School as an Assistant Secretary/Librarian. This position plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the school office while also maintaining a welcoming and engaging library environment for students and staff.
The successful candidate will be a positive, professional, and service-oriented individual who is committed to supporting students, families, staff, and the Catholic identity of the school community. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, discretion, flexibility, and the ability to manage both administrative and library responsibilities in a busy school setting.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a combination of school office and library duties, including:
- Serving as the first point of contact for students, families, staff, visitors, and community members
- Providing administrative support to the Principal, Head Secretary, and school staff
- Maintaining accurate student records, attendance information, correspondence, and school documentation
- Responding to phone calls, emails, and general inquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Supporting school communication with families and staff
- Assisting with school-based financial processes, forms, records, and reporting as required
- Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Supporting the organization and day-to-day operations of the school office
- Managing library circulation, shelving, organization, and inventory of library resources
- Assisting students with book selection, research, and access to learning materials
- Supporting literacy initiatives and helping foster a love of reading among students
- Maintaining and developing the library collection in collaboration with school administration and staff
- Creating a welcoming, respectful, and student-centred library environment
- Supporting school events, activities, and other duties as assigned by the Principal or designate
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- Commitment to Catholic education and the mission of Lakeland Catholic School Division
- Post-secondary education, training, or certification in office administration, business administration, library studies, library technology, or a related field
- Previous experience in a school office, administrative assistant, secretary, or library role is considered an asset
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and the public
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn school-based software programs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- A welcoming, professional, and student-focused approach
- Library experience, literacy programming experience, or experience supporting students with reading and research would be considered an asset
- First Aid certification would be considered an asset
