Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
A qualified Part-Time Academic is needed to teach the following course from Sep 8th to Dec 9th, 2026. Class is delivered in the Fall semester on Wednesdays from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm AST (approximately) with an online intensive component on Dec 9-12 (3.5 days in Toronto) and Dec 11-14 (3.5 days in Halifax). Travel expenses for the intensive purpose will be covered.
This is a position with a strong emphasis on high-quality teaching, excellent communication and dedication to student success with strong ability to offer education over online and blended format.
Students learn the foundations and some applied components of the course materials during weekly online sessions. During the in-person intensive days, the focus shifts to applying the learning outcomes in businesses and organizations. The entire course is offered via blended format (synchronous and asynchronous materials) and students are typically have 5-15 years of work experience in their respective fields.
This course introduces the principles and practices used to process and communicate financial information about an organization to various stakeholders. As a future manager, students will be taught necessary components of accounting literacy and a critical appreciation of the subject. A portion of this course examines the challenges of financial accounting and is focused on understanding and interpreting financial statements. The other portion of the course explores the use of accounting information to assist managers with internal decision making. This is a user-oriented course which emphasizes hands-on exploration, analysis, and evaluation of accounting concepts.
The Part-Time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation and evaluation. The part-time academic should be available for class lectures and two hours per week for consultation with students. Additional meetings with the team of faculty teaching MBA courses may be required (approximately 1 hours / month). The part-time academic reports to Dr. Hamed Aghakhani, the MBA Program Director.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A relevant Masters or PhD degree is required. The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter and practical experience as well as established a consistent record of effective teaching. The successful applicant must be able to incorporate industry perspectives / themes in the course. Holding CPA is considered as an asset. Excellent oral/written and presentation skills are required.
The successful candidate must also be able to meet the Faculty of Management’s accrediting body (AACSB) academic or professional qualification requirements.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated experience teaching accounting (or relevant courses) at the graduate level.
- An established professional and academic network within the accounting community, sufficient to secure and host guest speakers (both industry practitioners and academics) for the course.
- Familiarity with teaching in online synchronous and asynchronous formats will be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with the Brightspace learning management environment will be considered an asset.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
$8,260 per course (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement)
