Travel Trainer (Community Relations Representative

Under the general supervision of the Accessibility Coordinator, the Community Relations Representative is responsible for providing information and education about how to utilize Winnipeg Transit using a variety of IT tools, social media platforms, and interactive activities. The position is responsible for enhancing community relations with the citizens of Winnipeg.
The position is responsible for research in updating and developing comprehensive transit travel training programs appropriate to differing levels of comprehension for a variety of audiences. In consultation and approval of the Supervisor and Manager of Communications, the position is responsible for the communication design/content of all material and ensuring it’s aligning with Transits marketing plan.
The position works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and develop new partnerships. This position will be the subject matter expert in knowledge of Transit and Transit Plus services and will be the public face, navigating media inquiries and acting as an ambassador for Winnipeg Transit while presenting these programs. This role is responsible for building and strengthening community relationships for the Transit Department and the City of Winnipeg.
The Community Relations Representative will be responsible for guiding staff, volunteers and students assisting with Community Relations Representative duties, events/presentations and programs.
As the Community Relations Representative your duties will include :
- Maintain, update, create, and present materials/information and provide demonstration to clients regarding Transit and Transit Plus Services.
- Provide and organize community outreach opportunities to promote Transit’s reputation and build strong community relations.
- Provide training and will collaborate with staff and external students, volunteers and/or stakeholders.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned consistent with the position description and general functions of the position.
Your education and qualifications include
- Two years post-secondary education in a related field, communications, business, humanities, education or equivalent training and experience or CACE certificate
- MB Class 5 F license in good standing. A Class 2 License would be a definite asset.
- Must have or obtain and maintain First Aid & CPR and AED.
- A minimum of three years of experience in providing customer service, and experience in one of the following: updating procedures documents; delivering training; developing and delivering presentations; developing communications materials.
- Knowledge and experience using various social media platforms.
- Ability to organize, maintain records, deliver and implement training or presentation sessions.
- Ability to develop comprehensive program materials (e.g. training material).
- General knowledge of Transit and Transit Plus Services.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and deal with people in a wide variety of circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a computer to access or demonstrate information (NAVIGO),
- Advanced proficient use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees at all levels of the department and liaise effectively with outside agencies.
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
- Ability to make quality decisions in a timely fashion.
- Must be able to work varied shifts as required by the position.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Ability to adhere to the requirements of Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Must be prepared to take training courses relevant to the position determined by management.

Conditions of employment
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check including vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the applicant(s) or successful candidate(s), at their expense when requested.
- Manitoba Class 5 F Driver’s license in good standing. A Class 2 License is considered an asset.
- Must have or obtain and maintain First Aid & CPR
- Must complete Canadian Urban Transit Certificate as Ambassador Trainer, Travel Training Course with Easter Seals and/or approved equivalent within time frame specified by management.
- Must be available for days, evenings, weekends and holidays for operational requirements.
