The Opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the CAD Technologist is responsible for the design and CAD drafting of new and existing products and plays a key role in managing the company’s design projects from concept through to production. This role requires solid knowledge of mechanical design across a range of materials and manufacturing processes, and works closely with Production, Sales, and our Supplier Partners. This role is built for someone who is detail-oriented, technically curious, and takes pride in seeing a design through from concept to finished product.

What You’ll Do

Design & Engineering

• Produce mechanical designs and drawings in SolidWorks

• Organize and maintain 3D-CAD design files and digital file databases for all projects

• Create and manage design projects, ensuring workflows stay on track and projects are completed on time

• Develop detailed product renderings and engineering calculations, and translate them into manufacturing-ready files compatible with CNC programs and production processes

• Maintain the change/revision control system for all design data

• Analyze production and material costs and provide costing information to the Operations team

• Work with Supplier Partners on tool/jig design, vendor selection, part repeatability, and corrective actions

• Support prototype development and manage related project timelines

• Work with Sales to understand customer needs and prepare renderings, approval drawings, and specifications for proposals and estimates

• Contribute to SRED claim documentation and complete DFMA/FMEA reviews as required

• Lead root cause analysis on design-related issues

What You Bring

Required

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Design using 3D software (SolidWorks)

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a product design and engineering role

• Advanced knowledge of BOM creation, process costing, CAD library maintenance, and make-to-order business processes

• Experience with project management software

• Strong experience maintaining change/revision control of design data

• High proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business technologies

• Solid understanding of how materials and manufacturing processes impact design

• Experience working directly with production teams to solve design challenges

• Comfortable working in both a climate-controlled office and a manufacturing plant environment

• Ability to travel for business purposes and hold (or obtain) a valid passport

Assets

• Knowledge of mechanical design with plastics (e.g., HDPE), steel, aluminum, and wood

• Experience with SolidWorks Visualize, KeyShot, or other 3D rendering software

• Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop

• A genuine passion for sustainability, recycling, and environmental impact
