TITLE: Pharmacist 1

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacist is a regulated health professional and serves as the clinical lead for pharmacy services across The Bethany

Group’s Type A continuing care sites. Working collaboratively with the pharmacy team and interdisciplinary care teams, the

Pharmacist is responsible for the clinical oversight of medication therapy, ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based

pharmaceutical care for residents. This includes medication review, therapeutic recommendations, and support of care

planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

(Education; Experience/Training; Knowledge; Licenses/Certificates; Membership Requirements)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Registration and good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacy required
  • Maintenance of a minimum of $2,000,000 in personal professional liability insurance coverage required
  • Experience in a continuing care or geriatric setting preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in geriatric pharmaceutical care
  • Additional Prescribing Authority (APA) an asset
  • Authorization to administer injections an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers' License

REQUIREMENTS

• Provides medication-related consultation and education to physicians, nursing staff, residents, and families

  • Serves as a key resource on pharmaceutical care, including drug indications, side effects, and risk management (e.g.,

highrisk medications, chemical restraints)

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates pharmacy policies, procedures, and medication management systems, including

controlled substances management and medication distribution processes

  • Ensures compliance with provincial legislation, standards of practice, and accreditation requirements
  • Performs other related duties within scope of practice

SHIFT INFORMATION

Mandatory LAPP membership for permanent Part-time and Full-time employees that work a 0.7 FTE or greater (see policy FS 03-04)
