Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
A Part-Time Academic is needed to teach the following course from Sep – Dec, 2026. Class is currently scheduled for 2:30pm to 5:30 pm on Thursdays. The course is delivered over a 12-week period and is offered in-person.
The Personal & Professional Effectiveness (PPE) curriculum was developed using input from our Employer Partners and Advisory Council and is honed through continues feedback from these interest holders. This ensures that our students have the relevant, practical leadership skills and behaviors they need to be effective in the workplace. Anchored by the core pillars of self-management, engagement, complexity and innovation, the curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore and develop skills and behaviors related to responsible leadership and career management.
This course is delivered to our full-time MBA Corporate Residency students. The MBA Corporate Residency is a career launching program. BUSI 5004 is the third in a sequence of PPE courses and is situated directly after the Corporate Residency. As such, it is intended to build off the learning, experiences and skill development acquired in the workplace. Situated in the 2nd year of the program, the course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to customize their professional development efforts to support and complement their post-graduate career goals.
With this in mind, the course is designed to provide some flexibility of choice to pursue professional development opportunities that best meet their needs and interests. Weekly content is determined in consultation with the Program Office (who have feedback from students).
The Part-Time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation and evaluation. The part-time academic should be available for a three-hour lecture and two hours per week for consultation with students. Additional meetings with the team of faculty teaching fall MBA courses may be required (approximately 1.5 hours / month). The part-time academic reports to Dr. Hamed Aghakhani, the MBA Program Director.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A graduate degree in a management related topic is required. The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter, practice, experience and record of effective teaching experience. Excellent oral / written and presentation skills are required. The successful candidate must also be able to meet the Faculty of Management’s accrediting body (AACSB) academic or professional qualification requirements.
Considering the nature of this course, professional work experience in industry is strongly considered an asset. The successful applicant must be able to incorporate industry perspectives / themes in the classroom, collaborate closely with the professions teaching other PPE courses.
This course is a core course within the Corporate Residency MBA (CR MBA) program. The successful applicant must be able to incorporate industry perspectives / themes in the classroom, collaborate closely with the professors teaching Personal and Professional Effectiveness courses, and when needed, consult with other professors teaching MBA courses in the program. Excellent communication and coaching skills are required.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
$8,260 per course (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement)
