Join our team as a Labourer with our Municipal Works department. This seasonal opportunity is anticipated to run through August 2026, providing hands-on experience supporting the infrastructure and services that keep our community moving. In this role, you'll perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks, including pavement repairs, concrete work, snow and ice control, and stormwater infrastructure maintenance. With a focus on safety, teamwork, and service excellence, you'll contribute to projects that keep our city running smoothly while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
How You'll Own It
- Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks, including filling potholes with asphalt, sidewalk concrete work, cleaning and inspecting stormwater infrastructure, traffic sign and roadway marking maintenance, and general labour tasks.
- Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain clear and timely communication.
- Operate light-duty vehicles.
- Represent the organization positively in all interactions.
What You Bring
- Familiarity with construction, maintenance, and repair methods for Municipal Works infrastructure.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining hand and power tools.
- Desire to learn and progress through the various types of heavy equipment operated in Municipal Works.
- Committed to safety practices and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills for working with colleagues and the public.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Competent in using computers and relevant software for job-related tasks.
- Adaptable to changing tasks and team assignments.
- Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and performing strenuous work in various weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalency diploma.
- Possess and maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Possession of a valid Alberta Class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of management approved education, and experience may be considered.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
