Job Opportunity: Harm Reduction Coordinator

Location: Prince George, BC (In Person)

Job Type: Full-time (37.5 hours/week); some evening work engaging community members in project meetings and harm reduction activities is required; potential for local or regional travel.

Benefits: Extended health benefits + paid vacation & sick leave + statutory holidays

Salary: $21-24 Per Hour

Positive Living North is an Indigenous-led, community-based organization providing care and support for people living with, vulnerable to, and affected by HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C (HCV). We are looking to interview exceptional candidates who are committed to ongoing personal and professional growth and interested in a full-time Harm Reduction Coordinator position.

Candidate Profile

PLN seeks a team player with healthy personal qualities who is passionate about supporting our mandate to help all people gain full access to the Social Determinants of Health. We seek a dynamic individual who can compassionately, comfortably, and confidentially work in an environment that respects diversity and has the ability to deal non-judgmentally with issues of addictions, poverty, homelessness, and the legacy of the colonization of Indigenous people.

Qualifications

· High School Certificate and/or Diploma in a field of study relevant to social sciences, community development, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

· Exceptional knowledge related to HIV/AIDS and HCV, understands the complexities of working with diverse populations, and has a thorough appreciation and awareness of Indigenous history and culture.

· Ability to work from a risk/harm reduction perspective.

· Be self-motivated with excellent communication (written & verbal), relationship building, organizational & time management skills.

· Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Email, Zoom and Adobe PDFs.

· Personal characteristics that will contribute to a healthy and dynamic team.

· Rights-based approach and knowledge related to decolonization, anti-racism and health equity work.

· Experience in community-led and/or community-engaged projects, activities and advocacy; lived experience as a racialized person and/or marginalized community member is highly valued.

· Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.

Specific Duties

· Support the development and implementation of PLN and the Fire Pit in the Harm Reduction Outreach Program framework.

· Provision of a broad range of low-threshold, harm-reduction supports to peers.

· Engagement of peers in a collaborative and safe manner, developing healthy relationships based upon trust and non-judgement.

· Engagement of community organizations in a collaborative approach that creates an involvement in long-term strategies.

· Provision of overdose prevention education, including education on the administration of Naloxone, safer drug use and safer sex practices to peers and communities.

· Distribution of Naloxone to high-use areas in the Prince George downtown core and the administration of Naloxone in emergency situations.

· Development and facilitation of peer-driven network.

· Participates in planning exercises, monitoring & evaluation activities and provides insight and guidance in harm reduction program development.

· Performs other duties as required by your direct manager and the Executive Director.
