Operations Accountant
Frind Estate Winery
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking OPERATIONS ACCOUNTANT who is responsible for interfacing with all areas of our operations including production, vineyard, hospitality, outside sales, and Head Office, with a focus on wine costing and inventory. In addition, this position will monitor adherence to GAAP and assist in the improvement of internal control policies and procedures including those governing purchasing, inventory control and compliance. This exciting opportunity is based in our West Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada winery location.

We are dedicated to crafting excellence in every vine, cultivating multiple distinct grape varieties including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Marechal, Foch and Regent, across our varied geographic locations from as far south as Osoyoos to as far north as Vernon.
Responsibilities
Cost Accounting
- Works closely with a variety of departments throughout the organization, including accounting, finance, production, farming/vineyard and operations to ensure expense components of wine costing are properly identified, understood, and recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
- Creates and maintains cost estimates by SKU.
- Assists with budgeting, planning and analysis associated with wine inventory costs; proactively identify risks and cost savings opportunities.
- Maintains all SOPs associated with the organization's cost accounting function. Make recommendations to improve or streamline processes.
- Prepares accounting and financial reporting associated with wine inventory and cost of goods sold.
- Accurately calculates, maintains and updates wine costing.
Inventory control:
- Coordinates monthly physical inventories of wine finished goods, raw materials and food inventory, including inputs of count sheets. Completes inventory reconciliations and investigates count discrepancies.
- Conducts inventory count audits; assists with physical counts when required.
- Ensures that the inventory is physically controlled and maintained in accordance with company policy and procedures, including specific physical identification requirements as needed.
- Liaises and works closely with functional groups to resolve inventory issues, including but not limited to: Production, Finance, Sales, Restaurant, Tasting Room, Wine Club, Warehouse.
- Participates in drafting and implementing Inventory Management procedures, policies, and work instructions.
- Identifies and recommends inventory management improvement initiatives
- Tracks and provides commentary on inventory metrics.
Accounting & Inventory Projects & Initiatives:
- Plays a key part in systems modification/implementation projects as related to cost accounting and inventory management.
- Participates in the design and implementation of software and other tools, to ensure that inventory management requirements and controls are met.
- Assists with ad-hoc analysis and special projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in related field; accounting degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years experience in general accounting required preferably in cost accounting and inventory management/controls.
- Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Must have a valid Class 5 drivers license in good standing for business travel between locations.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting theory and GAAP required.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish priorities and work independently without supervision.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

What we offer
The pay range for this position is $68,000 to $80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon several factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
