Commissioning Lead – Civil Construction

Maple Reinders Constructors is currently searching for a Commissioning Lead to join our Civil construction division and be based on the Duffin Creek WPCP in Pickering, Ontario. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a large exciting civil water and wastewater project.

In this role, you will be accountable for planning and delivering commissioning programs across mechanical, electrical, and control systems, ensuring all systems are safely and efficiently brought online in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality expectations. You will play a key role in coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, engineers, and clients to ensure successful handover of fully operational facilities.

Job Duties

  • Take ownership of commissioning activities from early planning through start-up, validation, and final turnover.
  • Develop detailed commissioning strategies, including defining system scopes, boundaries, and sequencing.
  • Align commissioning activities with overall construction schedules by integrating M&E and start-up timelines.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure installations meet design intent and contract requirements.
  • Administer and enforce status tagging to support safe equipment start-up and testing.
  • Conduct system readiness reviews, identifying deficiencies and working with site teams to resolve issues.
  • Prepare and manage commissioning documentation, including testing records and turnover packages.
  • Lead commissioning meetings and maintain clear communication through detailed minutes and reporting.
  • Witness and verify system testing, inspections, and performance criteria.
  • Maintain up-to-date commissioning logs, including contract and Article E documentation.
  • Support commercial and project documentation.
  • Provide technical insight during design reviews and construction coordination sessions.
  • Promote best practices in turnover planning, system preservation, and change management.
  • Support commissioning efforts across multiple Maple Reinders projects as required.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in commissioning within construction projects.
  • A University Degree/Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or a combination of education and industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage commissioning programs and deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Experience working on water / wastewater projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in incineration technologies is a strong asset.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 / Year (depending on experience)

Location: Site-based role in Pickering, Ontario.
