West Lake Energy Corp. is a privately owned, intermediate producer with core assets located in the central Alberta and Saskatchewan areas. West Lake’s strategy is to grow its production base in both its heavy and medium areas through organic drilling complemented with focused acquisitions. West Lake has applied advanced drilling and completion techniques, which has allowed its wells to achieve compelling economic returns at sustained low oil prices. West Lake continues to execute on a material multi-year drilling program.
We are currently seeking an intermediate to senior level Mineral Land Negotiator in our Calgary Office. This role offers a wide range of responsibilities and the opportunity to work within a highly engaged team of industry professionals.
ACCOUNTABILITES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify strategic opportunities, develop land strategies, and seek business opportunities.
- Liaise between the internal executives and external organizations through effective negotiation and relationship management.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with outside partners and internal departments, including geology, geophysics, engineering, production, and operations.
- Assist with managing the company’s existing properties from a mineral land negotiation perspective.
- Advise management of industry trends, land matters and investment opportunities aligned with the organizational business plan.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or equivalent experience in the role.
- Minimum 10 years of Saskatchewan land experience, particularly with freehold title, mineral ownership, acquisitions, and commercial negotiations.
- Solid understanding of land tenure and regulations in Saskatchewan.
- Experience managing lands held under both Freehold and Crown Leases.
- Ability to negotiate, draft and interpret contractual obligations relating to options, acquisitions & divestitures, joint ventures, farm-ins, and other similar agreements.
- Comprehensive understanding of all CALEP & PASC procedures.
- Proficiency with geoSCOUT and/or AccuMap and the ability to produce strategy layers and maps relating to competitor activity, historical sales, Land sale postings and bidding strategies.
- Strategic thinking as it relates to long term planning from land acquisition to full cycle asset development.
- Strong network within the industry and the ability to resolve contentious issues with senior individuals while maintaining a reputable image of the organization.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to solve complex problems.
ASSETS
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Broad understanding of G&G, Engineering, Drilling and Completions, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, Environmental and Legal aspects of the oil and gas industry.
- Active Membership with CALEP (“Canadian Association of Land and Energy Professionals”).
- Preference for candidates from small-to-mid-sized producers where exposure to a broader range of responsibilities is typical.
