Emergency Planning Specialist - Temporary Full-Time
Are you passionate and knowledgeable about emergency management and emergency planning? The District of Squamish is seeking a temporary full-time Emergency Planning Specialist to join our Emergency Program team. As the Emergency Planning Specialist, you’ll be supporting the update and development of District emergency plans such as the All-Hazard Plan, Risk Assessment and Community Evacuation Plan while working with a wide range of internal and external partners.

What you’ll be doing
- Work closely with the Districts emergency management consultant in the development and updating of a range of the Districts emergency management plans.
- Ensure project deliverables are on time and in line with the Districts goals.
- Facilitate communication and engagement between the district and emergency management and response partners.
- Assisting with the development, review and updates to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) procedures, guidelines and checklists and supporting documents.
- Support with the planning and delivery of tabletop and functional EOC exercises.
- Review existing emergency management resources and ensure there is alignment with the updates underway.
- Participate in emergency response activities as required.
What we’re looking for
Our ideal candidate works well both independently and as part of a team and can take initiative and bring new ideas to the table. You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and are equally comfortable when in the office behind a computer or outside in the community participating in various Emergency Management activities. You have a strong understanding of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act and the BC Emergency Management System.
This role requires flexibility, as occasional evening and weekend work may be needed to support public education events and emergency response activities. In addition, you have the following qualifications:
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years’ of experience in emergency management, preferably within a local government or public sector environment.
- Degree or diploma in emergency management, public administration, planning, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- ICS 100 and ICS 200 certification.
- Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) training and/or experience required.

On top of the hourly rate of $42.56, we offer 4% vacation pay, 5% statuary holiday pay, and after 455 hours worked 12% in lieu of benefits. The District of Squamish also offers a compressed work week which allows for an earned day off (a Friday) every second week.
