Reporting to the Privacy & Freedom of Information (FOI) Compliance Manager (the ‘Manager’), the Privacy Compliance Analyst (the ‘Analyst’) interacts across the organization with personnel and the people we serve and their care-partners, to support the department’s privacy data governance program and protect data during collection, use, disclosure, storage, modification, and processing to mitigate privacy risk. The Analyst reviews and triages large volumes of inquiries to provide appropriate, timely, and professional advice including, but not limited to, regulation and policy adherence; drafting documentation for regulators; conducting assessments of new technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, projects/initiatives; identifying risks to personal information and personal health information; ensuring data use is authorized, anonymized where possible, and compliant. Working closely with the Manager to promote the organization’s privacy data governance framework to ensure data stewardship activities achieve data accuracy, consistency, compliance with the law, the Analyst applies a matured understanding of relevant legislations, e.g. Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), data privacy principles, organizational policies and procedures, and departmental standard operating procedures to conduct the role’s responsibilities.

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate Degree and/or College Diploma in Business Administration, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field, combined with a minimum three to five years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in healthcare
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience demonstrating systems thinking to effectively synthesize complex analyses and present clear, actionable findings combined with a strong understanding of data processing and lifecycles, including model alignment, risk register deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement may be considered

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Applies the organization’s defined scope of the privacy program, including its privacy data governance framework, policies and procedures, Privacy by Design (PbD), processes for monitoring the regulatory environment - including legislative and regulatory change
  • Fulfills day-to-day privacy operations to meet legal requirements and the expectations of programs and services and the people we serve, while reducing risk of a data breach
  • Contributes to the on-going development and evolution of the Privacy and FOI department by proactively bringing best practice, emerging trends, and analysis of relevant jurisprudence to practices that contribute to the achievement of organizational and departmental goals and priorities
  • In collaboration with the Manager, informs privacy-related education and awareness as well as privacy communications, as required
  • Assists with Patient/Client/Resident/SDM/POA Consent Directives
