What qualifications are we looking for?

At the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta, we strive to ensure our employees are a good fit

The successful candidate will have the following

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • University Degree or Diploma in Human Services/ HR/Social Sciences and/or Business
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if

applicable), within the last six months

  • Must have class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with

occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of employment, education, and training strategies, local labour market

information and community resources

  • Exceptional customer service attitude and skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?

Reporting to the Director of Employment Services, the Career and Employment Advisor will

assist individuals in providing comprehensive and individualized services that enable job

seekers to acquire workplace and occupational skills allowing them to re-enter the

workforce as quickly as possible.

Customer Service

  • Assist participants with resume development, job search strategies, interview skills,

training opportunities, career planning, employability skills and labour market

information

  • Initiate, develop and maintain employer contacts by marketing our programs
  • Negotiate job placements and work experience opportunities for clients with

employers in the City of Brooks, County of Newell region

  • Respond to phone calls/emails within 24 business hours
  • Greet customers/program participants professionally and courteously

Interpersonal/Communication Skills

  • Ensure any conflict in the workplace is resolved promptly, in accordance with YMCA

  • Ensure all tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Initiate, develop and maintain employer contacts by marketing our programs – the

position will entail initiating and meeting with local businesses/employers to promote

our clients and available services

  • Negotiate job placements and work experience opportunities for clients with

employers

  • Provide ongoing coaching on a one-on-one basis for individuals connecting to the

workforce

  • Conduct a thorough assessment to help clients identify their interests, skills, and

abilities, and relate them to the workforce

  • Assist clients in identifying and addressing barriers to employment
  • Conduct follow-up services with clients
  • Facilitate life management and employability workshops
  • Conduct data entry into the Mobius tracking system
  • Complete monthly reporting

Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedure

  • Ensure all YMCA policies/procedures and applicable legislation is followed
  • Compliance with funding contracts, including meeting targets/outcomes, reporting,

confidentiality, etc.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Office located on the main floor.
  • Sitting at a desk and using a computer for most of the day
  • From time to time, may need to lift boxes of files weighing up to 20 lbs
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions when walking outside to/from vehicle.
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions when using vehicle for occasional business

purposes (e.g., going to an employer meeting).
