COMPENSATION

Effective June 21, 2024, as a result of the LiUNA arbitration award, the pay band for this position no longer includes STEP 1. The starting salary will be commensurate with experience, beginning at STEP 2 or higher on the pay grid.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of environmental activities to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, families and staff. This role requires availability on weekends, holidays, and overnights.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cleans assigned area by washing furnishings, and equipment with cleaning solutions, disinfects to prevent the spread of disease

  • Scrubs, waxes and polishes floors

  • Uses dust cloths and vacuum cleaner to dust windowsills, blinds, floor and furniture

  • Empties trash baskets and recycling containers

  • Makes beds with clean linen in prescribed manner

  • Scour, disinfects and polishes work as assigned

  • Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, employees and Hospital information

  • Completes other related duties as required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work may include lifting, pulling, carrying and pushing. Considerable walking, standing with occasional bending and stooping. May be in frequent contact with water, cleaning and disinfectant solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of High School Diploma or the equivalent (Essential)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning, sanitation process and housekeeping techniques (Essential)

  • Experience in hospital cleaning procedures such as dealing with infectious disease (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills (Essential)

  • Ability to work with limited supervision. (Essential)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand oral English instructions and procedures. (Essential)

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)

  • Bilingualism (English/French) (Preferred)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
