Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Regulatory Programs as well as being guided by the CEO, the HR Coordinator will administer the day-to-day HR operations for Thompson Regional Airport Authority (‘TRAA’). As a member of the management team and guided by the organization’s mission, vision and values, this position provides support across the organization, acting as an advisor and partner to all areas and focusing on advancing the effective HR operations and culture of TRAA as a whole.
The HR Coordinator will provide support for a variety of programs, including, but not limited to recruitment, training & development, new employee onboarding, payroll & benefits, and health & safety.
The HR Coordinator will be responsible for providing a consistently high standard of support to the management team and will support the team and staff with confidentiality, efficiency and experience always being the key goal.
Human Resources Management
- Responsible for coordinating annual staff training, including scheduling, record keeping, and administration of required documentation
- Interpretation and administration of collective agreement as well as participation in Labour Management meetings
- Key support to building and maintaining positive labour relations working relationships with the Union
- Coordinates activities for staff recruitment including posting on new job opportunities both internally and externally and taking part in the interview process if required.
- Supports new employee onboarding and provides orientation training.
- Primary resource for inquiries, tracking and updating human resource policies and procedures and may act as a liaison with TRAA’s Human Resource support services.
- Assist with annual budget preparation
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and strategies to recommend changes to policy and procedures that support the achievement of organizational objectives.
- Research and recommend new ways to improve operational efficiency and a positive employee experience.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Administers payroll processing, ensuring timely, accurate, and confidential handling of employee compensation and benefits.
- Administers employee benefits, including enrolling employees, and processing changes such as updates to employee information.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of the employee benefits plan, responds to staff and management enquiries and assists in comparative market analysis as required.
- Works with the Financial Officer to ensure payroll systems align with financial and audit standards.
- Acts as a contact for payroll and benefits vendors.
Governance Support
Provide support to the Board of Directors and CEO in ensuring confidential governance administration, including but not limited to:
- Facilitate the scheduling of Board meetings
- Attend Board meetings and take minutes
- Working with the CEO to compile Board packages and reports for the Board
Other Duties
On an as needed basis, may be required to perform other duties such as office administration, safety, training, and support to the management team or Board of Directors.
Qualifications
The position requires knowledge of best practices, including regulation and legislation in employment and Human Resources Management. Knowledge of airport operations would be an asset. The position specifically requires:
- A minimum of 1-2 years Human Resources experience
- Knowledge of employment and payroll regulations
- Excellent skills in the use of Microsoft Office as well as an understanding of other relevant software such as AI tools
- A proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to coordinate many different initiatives and prioritize effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
