Safety Advisor

We are looking for a Safety Advisor on behalf of our client, a GC based in Vancouver. As a Safety Advisor reporting to the HSE Manager, you will serve as the primary on-site safety support for an assigned active construction project. The Safety Advisor will collaborate closely with project team members, trades, and subcontractors to support safe construction operations. Additional support for other active project sites may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent on-site presence throughout all phases of construction, monitoring daily operations, trade activities, and field conditions
  • Administer, promote, and monitor the HSE Program on-site, ensuring full participation from all employees and subcontractors
  • Conduct site-specific safety orientations for new, transferred, and contractor workers
  • Perform job site inspections and submit reports to the Superintendent and Safety team
  • Review contractor safety documents to ensure alignment with company safety requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments when changes occur to people, equipment, materials, environment, or work processes
  • Develop JHAs, project safety plans, and safe work procedures; support employee education and training
  • Investigate and report all incidents and near misses; provide recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Ensure safety controls are in place during non-routine work hours (e.g. evenings, weekends)
  • Liaise with external construction industry safety agencies
  • Communicate regularly with the HSE Manager and project management on safety performance and incident trends
  • Maintain current knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, the Workers Compensation Act, owner requirements, and industry best practices
  • Support the continuous development of the company's Health and Safety program

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a Safety Advisor, CSO, or HSE role
  • Valid CSO certification recognized in British Columbia
  • Advanced First Aid or current OFA Level 3 ticket (mandatory)
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and BCCSA COR requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work full-time on active construction sites in varying weather and site conditions
  • Willingness and ability to travel between active project sites as required • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Procore is an asset
  • High attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Confident in promoting and instilling safety values with internal teams and trade contractors
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction while leading by example
