As a Control Room Operator , you will be responsible for utilizing HMI (computer system) tools. Your duties include monitoring all incoming fibre, managing the drying processes and pellet production, and overseeing the movement of pellets into railcars. You will ensure that the plant operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulations, contributing to Drax’s mission of a zero-carbon, lower-cost energy future.

Your Day-to-Day as a Control Room Operator

This role is about precision, oversight, and proactive management. You’ll be:

  • Utilizing HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems to monitor all incoming fibre, manage drying processes, and oversee pellet production from start to finish.
  • Continuously monitoring and adjusting in-feed mixes, pelletizer temperatures, moisture levels, and other critical plant parameters to maintain peak efficiency.
  • Providing clear leadership and direction to plant employees, ensuring safe equipment operation and adherence to all policies.
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with all team members, cross-shift operators, and the Automation Team to ensure seamless transitions and maximum production.
  • Conducting regular moisture content testing, completing necessary reports, and directing utility staff to ensure the plant remains clean and safe, meeting all quality standards for pellets.
  • Offering technical training and mentorship to peers and Operators, contributing to our Plant Operator Development Program.

What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrable experience using Human-Machine Interface (HMI) technology to effectively monitor and control plant operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the confidence to challenge and influence when necessary. We listen carefully and make sure people feel genuinely heard.
  • A self-motivated and decisive approach, capable of adapting to change, balancing competing demands, and adept at identifying issues and implementing effective resolutions.
  • A natural ability to provide direction and promote adherence to safety, production, and quality standards.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed, including on-call support for Plant Management and Supervisor Relief.
