Video Editor and Production Assistant
Olam Films
Summary
$22–35/hr
Mid-Island
Mostly editing, PA work if desired
Company Description
Olam Films is a documentary production company based on mid-Vancouver Island. We make films about land, water, and the people who depend on them, working mainly with First Nations organizations, environmental nonprofits, and government agencies across BC and the Pacific Northwest.
We need an extra set of hands in the edit suite this summer. The work is mostly cutting, with the option to come out on shoots if you want to.
Role Description
You'll be in DaVinci Resolve most of the time, cutting sequences and working through edits on a couple of active projects. We'll give you a hard drive and use cloud-based tools so there's a real feedback loop. You won't be assembling montages to background music. The projects involve interviews, archival material, and documentary sequences that need actual editorial judgment.
Who fits
You're a film or media student, or recently graduated, looking for contract work over the summer. You know DaVinci Resolve and nonlinear editing well enough that the fundamentals aren't slowing you down.
The issues we work on matter to you. Forestry, fisheries, land use, First Nations rights and title. You grew up somewhere in BC, probably a smaller community, and you understand these aren't abstract policy debates. You can work independently and communicate when you need direction.
Details
Contract runs roughly June through October 2026. Primarily remote. Pay is $22–35/hr depending on experience. We'll provide a hard drive and project access, and there'll be regular feedback and guidance throughout.
We're a small company and we're upfront: we'd like this to turn into something longer. If the work goes well, there's more of it.
