Elementary Classroom Teacher
School District #8 (Kootenay Lake)
Wildflower School in Nelson, BC requires a middle school teacher that is highly skilled in teaching in a multi-age learning environment (students age 7-11) and is committed to creating a classroom community of support, safety, trust, respect, and compassion. Teachers interested in the position should practice pedagogy that is trauma-informed, community focused, and focuses on educating the whole child. In addition, a commitment in working collaboratively with parents, teachers and the greater school community are required. The teacher will be required to design, implement and assess thematic, cross-curricular learning activities across all domains.
Require Qualifications and experience
- Proven ability to teach effectively in a multi-aged classroom
- Proven experience teaching intermediate students.
- Proven understanding of the proponents and rationale of multi-aged learning
- Proven ability to plan thematically and effectively integrate all curricular elements into a broad year-long theme
- Proven ability to design and implemented inquiry based learning in all curricular areas.
- Proven success using a wide variety of authentic assessments strategies in all curricular areas
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate parent and community volunteers in the classroom
- Proven ability to plan, coordinated and integrate place-based learning opportunities
- Proven experience implementing restorative justice and compassionate communication with both children and parents
- Proven ability to work with parents to collaboratively design individualized home-schooling plans
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and guiding parents in their 5.5 hour/week home-educator role.
- Proven understanding of and commitment to the tenets of Attachment Theory as it pertains to the teacher-student relation and the parent-child relationship

Salary Range; $68,589 - $114,833 per year, in accordance with the current SD8–Kootenay Lake / KLTF Collective Agreement. Placement on the salary grid is based on qualifications and years of teaching experience as evaluated by the BC Teacher Qualification Service (TQS).
