Environmental Technician

Magris Talc

Magris Talc is one of the world’s leading talc producers, and our Penhorwood site is located in Northern Ontario, between Foleyet and Timmins, as part of our Canadian operations. We’re looking for an Environmental Technician to join our team — someone who enjoys hands-on field work, has a strong attention to detail, and takes pride in supporting responsible mining practices.

You’ll play an important role in supporting environmental monitoring, sampling, reporting, and compliance activities across the site. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to help ensure environmental programs are completed accurately, safely, and in line with regulatory requirements. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their day, is comfortable working outdoors in changing conditions, and wants to contribute to meaningful environmental work within a close-knit mining operation. What you’ll do

  • Support environmental monitoring and compliance programs in alignment with Magris Talc standards, ISO requirements, and applicable local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations
  • Conduct weekly water sampling at site locations for compliance monitoring and operational support
  • Complete flow measurements, groundwater sampling, and other environmental monitoring activities as required
  • Assist with pit dewatering activities and related environmental processes
  • Support Early Works Exploration activities when needed, including sampling and testing support
  • Participate in planned environmental inspections, regulatory audits, and Environmental Management System audits
  • Assist with investigations related to environmental incidents, hazards, or concerns when required
  • Prepare, update, and maintain environmental forms, reports, records, and sampling documentation
  • Ensure accurate information is submitted with samples for laboratory testing
  • Prepare lab requisitions and coordinate the delivery or shipment of samples to external laboratories
  • Help plan and coordinate sampling activities to support environmental and operational needs
  • Build positive working relationships with internal teams, contractors, laboratories, and external stakeholders
  • Champion HSEQ compliance in everything you do

What you bring

  • Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering, or a diploma in Environmental Technology or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in an environmental, mining, industrial, or related setting
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Strong critical thinking, organization, prioritization, and reasoning skills
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities and working across different site areas
  • Confidence working with environmental data, documentation, reports, and computer systems
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to perform field work and sample collection, including walking, climbing, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders

What we offer

  • Comprehensive benefits package, employer paid
  • Pension offerings
  • A 4/10 schedule with 3-day weekends
  • Employee assistance program (EAP) and access to Personify Health, a personal wellness and rewards platform
  • Travel allowance and remote pay
  • A chance to make a real impact — as a smaller, tight-knit company, your contributions are visible and meaningful, and you’ll work alongside a highly skilled team that takes pride in what they do
