Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager will lead mechanical engineering projects from concept through construction while working closely with clients, architects, developers, contractors, and internal design teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for project management, mechanical system design, quality assurance, technical leadership, client relationship management, business development support, and mentoring junior staff.
This role requires regular travel to project sites, construction meetings, client meetings, and field reviews throughout Ontario.
A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle are mandatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Engineering Design
- Lead HVAC system design for hospitality, healthcare, commercial, industrial, residential, institutional, and mixed-use developments.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
- Design ventilation systems, air distribution systems, hydronic systems, heat pump systems, chilled water systems, boiler systems, and energy recovery systems.
- Design plumbing, drainage, domestic water, and fuel gas systems.
- Coordinate fire protection and sprinkler system requirements with project teams.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, feasibility studies, and design narratives.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Participate in sustainable building and energy-efficient design initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and client requirements.
Hospitality Engineering
Candidates with hospitality and hotel experience will be given strong consideration.

Project Management
- Manage projects from schematic design through construction completion.
- Establish project schedules and monitor project milestones.
- Coordinate directly with clients, architects, developers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Attend project meetings, design coordination meetings, and site visits.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and quality standards.
- Support proposal preparation and business development initiatives.
- Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to repeat business opportunities.
Construction Administration
- Conduct field reviews and site investigations.
- Review shop drawings and equipment submittals.
- Respond to contractor RFIs and site inquiries.
- Prepare field review reports.
- Assist with commissioning and project closeout activities.
- Coordinate with contractors and project stakeholders during construction.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Participate in internal quality assurance and quality control reviews.
- Assist in developing engineering standards and best practices.
- Support the continued growth and development of the engineering team.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
- Minimum 8 years of consulting engineering experience in building systems design.
- Strong HVAC, Plumbing, and Mechanical Building Systems experience.
- Proven project management experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, CSA, NFPA, and applicable industry standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and client management skills.
- Ability to manage projects independently and lead multidisciplinary design teams.
- Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s License (Mandatory).
- Must own and maintain a reliable personal vehicle (Mandatory).
- Must be available to travel regularly to project sites throughout Ontario.
