The City of Grande Prairie's Recreation department is seeking a skilled and experienced temporary Aquatics Supervisor to lead lifeguarding operations, facility safety, and pool maintenance coordination at the Eastlink Centre Aquatics and the Aquatera Outdoor Pool. Term to end December 31, 2026

Position Responsibilities

This critical role ensures compliance with industry standards, risk management, and the delivery of a safe and welcoming environment for staff and patrons.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to Lifeguards, Aquatic Assistants, and Pool Operators, overseeing training, scheduling, and performance management. Key responsibilities include enforcing facility safety protocols, coordinating emergency response procedures, and managing water quality to maintain regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. Additionally, this position supervises the Administrative Assistant II, responsible for aquatic scheduling, and collaborates closely with the Aquatic Supervisor – programs & training to uphold service excellence and enhance public safety.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of aquatic experience, including lifeguard operations and facility safety.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory and leadership experience, preferably overseeing a large team in an aquatic setting.
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working with aquatic governing bodies such as the Lifesaving Society.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of lifeguard systems, risk management, and emergency response protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Recreation Management Software, UKG, and Oracle.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a team-oriented approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of self-awareness, integrity, and reliability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-demand environment with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and solution-focused, with a commitment to operational excellence.

Assets

  • Certificate or diploma in Aquatic Administration or Operations.
  • Certificate or diploma in Recreation Management.
  • Experience in municipal leadership.
  • Additional certifications in facility operations, safety management, or instructional training.

Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Salary range $45.21 - $58.43 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
