Minimum Requirements
- Current Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Levels I & II required
- NFPA 1002 (Driver/Operator – Pump & Aerial), 1006 (Rescue Technician), 1041 (Instructor), and 472/1072 (Hazardous Materials) certifications considered assets
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and meet required physical fitness standards (validated through testing)
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and ability to speak, read, and write English fluently, communicating clearly in high-pressure environments
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with a current Driver’s Abstract; Alberta Class 3 with Air Brakes is preferred
Responsibilities
- Operate effectively both as part of a shift team and within a structured Incident Command System (ICS) during emergency responses involving fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and medical events
- Support and participate in audit and assurance programs to monitor organizational emergency preparedness and ensure compliance with fire discipline standards
- Maintain programs to ensure the reliability and readiness of detection, suppression, and emergency response equipment, including comprehensive record-keeping and monitoring
- Develop and deliver training programs for peers, emergency response teams, and plant personnel to enhance overall response capability and preparedness
Location and other Key Details
- You will work out of our Syncrude Mildred Lake facility in Fort McMurray, Alberta
- The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
- If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory; relocation support will be provided
