Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Planning/Tenure Forester to join our team and contribute to the development and execution of forestry operations across a variety of tenures, including partnerships with First Nations and community-led initiatives. Positions are available in order of priority in Quesnel, Vernon and Williams Lake. This role involves a balanced mix of office-based planning and field implementation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for tenure and permit administration while ensuring regulatory compliance. They will play a central role in shaping operational strategies that align with sustainable forestry, client expectations, and evolving legislation. Key Responsibilities
Forest Tenure Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of forest tenures within the designated area.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
- Develop and implement sustainable forest management plans.
Collaboration, Engagement & Leadership:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and local partners.
- Integrate traditional ecological knowledge and cultural values into forest planning.
- Communicate forest management plans, policies, and initiatives clearly to all audiences.
- Facilitate inclusive decision-making processes and community involvement in forest management.
- Provide leadership and guidance to forestry professionals, contractors, and support staff.
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners to align on operational and strategic goals.
Operational Oversight:
- Coordinate contractors and ensure quality control throughout forestry operations.
- Monitor safety, HBS tracking, RESULTS reporting, and other operational requirements.
- Contribute to innovation in forest management practices and funding applications.
Environmental Stewardship:
- Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible forest management practices.
- Implement measures to protect biodiversity and ecosystem health.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track compliance with operational plans, permit conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare clear and timely reports on forest operations, stakeholder engagement, and environmental performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in good standing.
- Strong understanding of forestry practices, land use planning, and tenure management.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Indigenous communities in a forestry context.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and certification standards.
- Understanding of traditional ecological knowledge and cultural context in land management.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field.
- Several years of relevant experience in forest planning, ideally with a focus on community engagement.
