Overview Of Role

WestJet is seeking an Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Advisor to join our Occupational Health and Safety team. The OH&S Advisor serves as a business unit partner and is responsible to provide program guidance up-to the Vice President level of the organization supporting compliance and WestJet’s journey to zero workplace injuries.

Key Deliverables Include

  • Being an organizational subject matter expert (SME) by developing and providing consultation/training to client group partners including:
  • Program best practices
  • Hazard prevention
  • Ergonomics
  • Regulatory interpretation and application
  • Conduct incident investigations identifying root causes and in coordination with business units establish effective long-term corrective actions
  • Support risk assessments to identify and support the mitigation of occupational health and safety risks and hazards
  • Work with OH&S Work Place Committee (WPC) representatives to identify and manage local workplace hazards, support workplace inspections and provide WPC training
  • Gather and evaluate data to ensure identification and mitigation of occupational hazards. Monitor trends to provide timely and effective organizational guidance and compliance
  • Create and implement corporate OH&S procedures and programs to mitigate risk and support Federal legislation compliance
  • Complete audits and site visits to assess program conformance against best practice standards and WestJet procedures
  • Complete research on industry best practices, regulatory interpretation and application
  • Prepare and manage accurate and comprehensive OH&S records which include administrative data entry and evaluation
  • Work with external program stakeholders including but not limited to Federal labour program officers, vendors, contractors and outsourced service providers

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or diploma/certificate in occupational health and safety
  • 5+ years’ experience in an occupational health and safety role desired
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining occupational health and safety programs
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation or actively in progress
  • Understanding of Federal legislation and previous airline experience is considered an asset
  • Must be able to travel up to 20% based on business requirements
  • Please note: this role does require after-hours on call rotation to provide 24/7 support
