Introduction
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Education is seeking a Curriculum and Assessment Consultant (Regular/ Full Time) to focus on K to 12 Career Education in the Senior Years Technology and Education Program Unit of the Learning and Outcomes Branch. Improving educational outcomes, supporting students and families and preparing Manitoba’s children for the careers and challenge of the future is a key department objective towards Growing Our Economy.
Duties
Reporting to the Coordinator of the Senior Years Technology Education Program Unit, this position focuses policies, programs, curriculum and curriculum implementation resources to support career development, technology education and STEAM programming in Manitoba’s K to 12 education system.
- Prepare and review curriculum and support materials that reflect department priorities and current research to prepare students for the careers and challenges of the future.
- Lead and/or participate in the cyclic refinement of curricula and communicate adjustments to the field.
- Provide coordination, leadership and guidance to teams of teachers contributing to the development/renewal of curriculum documents or related implementation and support documents.
- Provide systems level support for the implementation of K to 12 career development initiatives.
- As directed, manage, and/or provide input on new school facility planning.
- As directed, represent the department by working with stakeholders and partners on projects and matters that are within the mandate of the department, division and branch.
- As directed, coordinate and/or provide regular oversite of grant implementation and develop and maintain funding agreements and provide support to grant recipients.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders including pre-Kindergarten and post-secondary partners.
- As directed, represent the branch when collaborating and consulting with other branches of Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning as well as with other departments and organizations.
- Prepare Ministerial correspondence, briefing notes, letters, and responses to the field.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor of Education and extensive experience in Career Development in a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school setting. A combination of post-secondary education and relevant work experience may be considered.
- Extensive experience administering/coordinating career development and transition education in Manitoba schools/school divisions or other Canadian jurisdiction.
- Experience leading diverse work groups and project teams.
- Ability to build relationships, foster collaboration, and develop partnerships between various educational stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to act with diplomacy and tact.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills with ability to create and edit a variety of documents with a high degree of accuracy.
- Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make recommendations to inform sound decisions.
Desired
- Working knowledge of one or more of the following programs: Take Our Kids to Work, Skills Manitoba, Safe Workers of Tomorrow.
- Knowledge of current Manitoba Technical Vocational Education programming and familiarity with current trends and issues.
- Experience working with one or more of the following: work placement programs, work experience, work integrated learning opportunity including the High School Apprenticeship Program.
Conditions of Employment

- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
