Job Summary

We are looking for a Data Migration Specialist to support the analysis, design, development, and execution of data migration activities from legacy/source systems into modern destination platforms. This role requires strong hands-on experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL, including the ability to read existing source data repositories, understand database schemas, analyze data relationships, and build reliable migration scripts and procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on data migration engineer who can independently investigate a source system, understand how data is structured and used, and build reliable migration logic into a destination platform. They are strong in Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL, stored procedures, Java, and Python. They can think like both a developer and a DBA, and they are comfortable using modern AI tools to improve productivity without blindly trusting generated results.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with engineering, product, and database teams to understand source and destination data models.
Analyze legacy/source data repositories to identify database structures, table relationships, constraints, indexes, data quality issues, and migration dependencies.
Design and implement data migration scripts, procedures, and tools to convert source data into the required destination format.
Develop and maintain migration logic using SQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL functions/procedures, Java, and Python.
Build repeatable and auditable migration processes, including extraction, transformation, loading, validation, rollback, and reconciliation.
Perform data mapping between source and target systems, documenting transformation rules and assumptions.
Optimize migration performance for large datasets using database tuning, indexing strategies, batching, and transaction management.
Validate migrated data through reconciliation reports, automated checks, and exception handling.
Troubleshoot data migration issues, including data integrity problems,
schema mismatches, encoding issues, performance bottlenecks, and failed migration runs.
Collaborate with application engineers to understand how source data is used by the application and how it should be represented in the target system.
Use agentic AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools to assist with code analysis, script generation, test creation, documentation, and migration acceleration.
Follow secure coding, data privacy, and auditability practices when handling sensitive or production data.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience migrating data between Oracle and PostgreSQL.

Experience with large-scale or production-critical data migration projects.

Experience with legacy application modernization or database modernization initiatives.

Experience reading application source code to infer data usage, business rules, and hidden dependencies.

Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes.

Experience using GenAI or agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools.

Experience creating automated data quality checks and migration reports.

Familiarity with containerized development environments, Linux scripting, and cloud/on-prem deployment environments.

GenAI / Agentic Tool Expectations

The candidate is not expected to be an AI researcher but should be comfortable using AI-assisted engineering tools as part of daily work.

Use Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools to analyze database scripts, Java/Python code, and migration logic.
Generate first drafts of migration scripts, SQL queries, validation scripts, and documentation.
Use AI tools to accelerate source code exploration and identify where data structures are used.
Review and validate AI-generated output carefully before using it in production migration work.
Apply engineering judgment, testing, and database expertise to ensure correctness, security, and reliability. Reliability.
