Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) STEPS Teacher at Westboro Elementary.
Westboro Elementary serves approximately 245 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 14 teaching staff and 20 support staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park, AB.
Westboro Elementary is an educational community where people work collaboratively to develop their own, as well as each other's potential. The school believes forging a partnership with the home is essential to maximizing student development intellectually, emotionally, socially, creatively and physically.

The Steps to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) Program is a specialized system program designed to meet the needs of students with severe to profound developmental disabilities. These students may have physical, sensory or behavioural challenges, or medical conditions requiring specialized accommodations. The focus of the program is to build functional communication skills that enhance the quality of life within a safe and structured learning environment, with regular routines and close supervision.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education degree
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Effective organization and classroom management skills
- Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Experience or familiarity analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
- Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
- Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
