QA and Systems Validation Lead
Torus Talent
Our client builds ruggedized telemetry and monitoring technology for heavy industry, combining proprietary hardware, embedded firmware, and software into connected products used in demanding operational environments. As they continue to mature their product line, they're creating their first-ever dedicated QA role; a rare chance to stand up an entire validation and quality practice from the ground up rather than inherit someone else's process. Based in Victoria alongside the core software, firmware, and hardware teams, this person will become the independent quality voice across the whole product.
What you'll be doing
- Build and own the validation and QA approach across software, firmware, hardware, and integrated system behavior, defining test coverage, release-readiness criteria, and repeatable processes from scratch.
- Validate that software updates, firmware revisions, hardware changes, and configuration updates stay compatible across supported product environments without introducing regressions.
- Coordinate pre-release and post-change testing for new versions, fixes, and product revisions before they reach customers.
- Investigate cross-functional defects, isolating whether failures trace back to software, firmware, hardware, data, or field conditions, and confirm fixes actually resolve them.
- Build out practical test environments, datasets, and automation to move the team away from ad hoc manual checking.
- Work across development, firmware, R&D, manufacturing, and field support to challenge changes early and surface risks before release.
- Document validation outcomes, test evidence, and release risks so quality decisions are traceable and repeatable.
What you bring
- Hands-on experience in software QA, systems validation, firmware testing, or hardware/software integration testing in a technical product environment.
- Ability to validate product behavior across software, firmware, and hardware together, not just isolated code or physical checks.
- Solid grounding in test planning, regression testing, defect isolation, and release-readiness discipline.
- Programming or scripting capability to support test execution, investigation, and automation (test automation experience is ideal).
- Strong, constructive communication; you can challenge technical decisions and explain quality risk clearly across engineering, manufacturing, support, and management.
- Post-secondary education in software/computer/electrical engineering, computer science, embedded systems, QA, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
- Experience with SQL-backed applications, device-connected systems, CI/CD, or industrial/telemetry products is an asset.
