We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care – North program. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of the AKC. You will be encouraged and be expected to work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. This position is based in the Lloydminster hemodialysis unit.

Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications
Effective time management and organizational skills. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must have Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Proof of successful completion of the CLPNA Administering Blood or Blood Products module is required if you were a graduate prior to June 2022. Basic computer skills. The AKC–N program requires candidates to complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educator's discretion. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4-week full-time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation, the LPN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation – 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 1-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton Zone employees and via Zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required (found in the Competency Profile for LPNs – 5th Edition on the CLPNA website). Alberta and Saskatchewan nursing permits.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience. Recent acute and chronic hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
