About BHP
At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.
In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world; Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.
About Potash and the Jansen Project
Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that’s shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.
Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet. With a CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.
But Jansen is more than a mine; it’s a long-term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create around 5,500 jobs, and once in operation, 900 permanent roles. Whether you’re looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.
Why BHP?
At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future.
We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2025, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment. At BHP, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration.
Work Location
This role is flexible to be based out of Saskatoon or the Jansen Mine site. This position will require regular travel to the Jansen Mine Site (if based out of Saskatoon).
For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.
The Challenge Ahead
This Specialist drives continuous improvement across the Jansen value chain - from mining through processing, logistics, and customer delivery by systematically identifying and eliminating bottlenecks through data gathering, analysis, and structured problem solving. This role combines structured problem-solving with hands-on field engagement to uncover root causes, implement sustainable solutions, and embed a culture of operational excellence. Success means not only meeting production targets but continuously raising performance standards through data-driven insights and iterative improvement cycles.
In this role, you will:
- Apply an understanding of end-to-end Value Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimisation, and maximise value.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across mining, hoisting, processing, and logistics using structured problem-solving.
- Engage in the field to validate issues, gather insights, and collaborate with operators and supervisors.
- Lead root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone) and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and maintain a Continuous Improvement pipeline aligned with ramp-up and steady-state production goals.
- Analyze equipment and productivity data (e.g., borers, hoists, conveyors) including data cleansing and preparation, and apply BHP’s Time Usage Model (TUM) to assess utilization and reliability.
- Develop performance metrics and benchmarks that align with ramp‑up and steady‑state goals, enabling consistent constraint management and improvement
- Help design dashboards and KPIs to visualize performance, track improvement impact and enable data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, operations, and planning teams to integrate improvements.
- Support inputs and assumptions for integrated planning routines and capacity modeling.
- Standardize successful practices through visual management and documented procedures to sustain gains.
- Apply systems thinking and Theory of Constraints (TOC) to diagnose constraints and unlock capacity across mining, hoisting, processing, and logistics.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial, Mining, or related technical discipline.
- Background in mining, processing operations, capacity modeling, and/or integrated planning.
- Strong skills in data gathering, cleansing, and analysis.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills for equipment performance and productivity.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (PDCA, 5-Why, Fishbone).
- Proficiency using BI tools (Power BI/Tableau) to build operational dashboards and translate analysis into actionable insights.
- Demonstrated growth mindset—curiosity, reflective practice, ownership, accountability, and adaptability—with a track record of coaching others and embedding CI principles into daily routines.
