Director, Benefit Programs

Where governance, service and impact converge.

Plannera Pensions & Benefits is seeking a thoughtful, credible and relationship-centred leader to serve as its next Director, Benefit Programs.

Headquartered in Regina, Plannera is a purpose-driven, not-for-profit corporation and one of Saskatchewan’s most significant pension and benefits administrators. Serving more than 114,000 members and over 900 employers, Plannera administers 16 benefit plans, including extended health care, dental, disability income, group life, and deferred salary leave, alongside 11 pension plans. Its work is guided by a clear purpose: to support secure financial futures through innovative, member-focused pension and benefit services.

Reporting to the VP, Member Services, the Director, Benefit Programs provides strategic leadership for the administration, governance and continued evolution of Plannera’s benefit programs delivered to employees of the Government of Saskatchewan and Crown sector organizations. The Director serves as a trusted advisor, key contributor, and relationship lead among government, unions, governing bodies, service providers and internal partners, while supporting sound governance, financial sustainability, risk management and member-focused service delivery.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a benefits leader who enjoys building, modernizing and bringing people together. The successful candidate will help assess current practices, strengthen governance, improve service delivery, support funding sustainability, and define and advance a clear roadmap for the continued evolution of Benefit Programs.

The role requires more than technical benefit administration expertise. The successful candidate will bring sound judgement, strong emotional intelligence, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to read the room. They will be able to adjust their messaging, level of detail and approach based on the audience, context, and competing strategic considerations at play. They will be equally comfortable supporting board and committee processes, working with government and union stakeholders, advising on risk-informed decisions, leading a team, and helping internal partners work together effectively.

The preferred candidate will bring progressive experience in benefit plan administration, plan design, service delivery, governance support and stakeholder engagement. They will have strong knowledge of Canadian benefits administration, including eligibility, claims processes, provider relationships, funding considerations, privacy, fiduciary responsibilities and relevant regulatory requirements. Experience working with government, unions, public-sector employers, boards, committees, advisory bodies or similarly complex multi-party environments would be considered a strong asset.

A relevant undergraduate degree is preferred, and a benefits-related professional credential or equivalent industry education would be considered an asset.

This opportunity will appeal to a leader who wants to make a practical and lasting contribution. The work is complex and important, but there is a strong foundation to build from, a team committed to serving members well, and an opportunity to bring greater clarity, structure and confidence to an important public-sector benefits portfolio.
