Hiring: Mainframe Developer (PL/I, COBOL, JCL, IMS DB, DB2)

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Experience: 4–7 Years

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to support application enhancements, production support, and decommissioning initiatives within a large enterprise environment. This role is ideal for professionals with strong legacy system expertise and a passion for maintaining operational excellence while contributing to modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement enhancements to existing mainframe applications

• Develop, maintain, and optimize PL/I and COBOL programs for batch and online processing

• Create and maintain JCL for production workloads

• Work extensively with DB2 and IMS DB for data processing, querying, and performance optimization

• Provide L2/L3 production support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis

• Monitor and support batch processing using Control-M

• Manage incidents, changes, and problem tickets using HPSM and JIRA

• Utilize ISPW for source code management and deployment activities

• Analyze legacy applications and identify decommissioning opportunities

• Support application retirement, data archival, migration, and validation initiatives

• Ensure compliance with regulatory and data retention requirements

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and maintain technical documentation

Required Skills

4+ years of Mainframe Development experience

Strong expertise in:

• PL/I

• COBOL

• JCL

• DB2

• IMS DB

• VSAM

Hands-on experience with:

• Control-M

• ISPW

• HPSM

• JIRA

Strong knowledge of:

• Batch Processing

• Production Support

• Application Enhancements

• Incident & Problem Management

Preferred Skills

Experience with Mainframe Application Decommissioning or Modernization Projects

Experience in Data Migration, Data Archival, and Validation

Insurance Domain Experience

Exposure to Agile/Scrum Delivery Methodologies

Familiarity with Guidewire ClaimCenter (Nice to Have)
