Key Duties
The successful applicant will conduct astronomy research with Dr. Tyler Foster. This will involve mining the latest GAIA space observatory results for distances to stars in Galactic star-forming regions (nebulae). The candidate will also work with archival infrared and radio-wavelength data and calculate upper-limit distances to the same nebulae, and compare thee two distance sets together. The RAI will also assist in the preparation of a publication to be submitted to a peer-reviewed astronomical journal and on which they will be an author.
Qualifications/Experience
- Demonstrated success in Physics Courses at least at the 2nd year level.
- Demonstrated success in Stellar & Galactic Astrophysics (74:284) is considered an asset.
- Ability to understand and work in a spreadsheet (Excel) environment.
- Good communication skills
