Personal Support Worker

About the Client

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to support a father who recently returned home from the hospital with stage four bladder cancer. He has catheters and drains from his lungs and kidneys that require careful monitoring. His wife lives with him and provides primary support, but the family needs professional assistance to ensure his comfort and safety during this difficult time. The family is exploring care options for the first time and values reliability, clear communication, and skilled support.

Responsibilities

The caregiver will provide overnight care from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM, seven days per week. Primary duties include helping the client get into bed at night, monitoring him throughout the overnight hours, and assisting him out of bed in the morning between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. The caregiver will help with morning personal care including bathing, dressing, and toileting. Medication reminders and light meal assistance such as reheating breakfast are also required. The caregiver should be prepared to assist with transfers and mobility support, as the client needs help moving safely. Light housekeeping tasks may be performed while the client is sleeping. The family may also need a second caregiver for a few afternoon hours to provide additional support.

What We're Looking For

We need a reliable and consistent caregiver who shows up on time every night and can commit to a regular schedule. Experience with cancer care, catheter and drain management, and transfer assistance is essential. The ideal caregiver takes initiative when needed, communicates clearly with the family, and has strong skills in personal care and mobility support. The caregiver must be calm, patient, and able to handle the physical and emotional demands of overnight care. English-speaking caregivers are required. The family values someone who respects the client's dignity while providing compassionate, professional support during this challenging time.

Schedule

This is an overnight position from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM, seven days per week. The caregiver will stay in the client's room or nearby with a baby monitor to respond quickly if needed. The family understands that multiple caregivers may be required to cover the full week and is open to a rotating schedule with consistent caregivers splitting the overnight shifts. Additional afternoon shifts of a few hours may become available for the right candidate. Care is needed immediately, and the family is looking to start as soon as possible.
