Program Director (FarmSafe Manitoba)

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is looking to grow our FarmSafe Manitoba team and are in search of a team-oriented, purpose driven leader to join us as Program Director. The successful candidate will be responsible to lead all program activities, working closely with the KAP team, primarily the Farm Safety Consultant, to set vision for a successful safety program that serves Manitoba farmers.
FarmSafe Manitoba is an initiative led by Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) to build and expand the culture of farm safety in Manitoba through awareness, education, and program delivery. We strive to ensure all farmers across Manitoba have the information and tools available to make their farms a safe place to live and work, building upon existing resources and tools from all our partner organizations.
In this role, the Program Director will expand FarmSafe Manitoba’s reach, ensuring government funding opportunities are maximized. The successful candidate will work to enhance the existing program so it meets the needs of Manitoba farmers for a safer, more prosperous future on each of their operations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Program Management & Oversight
- Overseeing all program activities for FarmSafe Manitoba, including budgetary management, priority setting, program development, communications and marketing, on-farm safety activities, etc.
- Ensuring resources, funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP), are utilized effectively and maximized
- Working with other KAP staff members & third-party agencies to ensure program activities are being advanced
- Creating strategic and operational plans for the immediate and long-term
Government Reporting & Relations
- Compiling and submitting all reporting to the Government of Manitoba in a timely manner, including quarterly progress and annual reports
- Working with the Manager of Finance & Operations, ensuring expenses meet government guidelines and working to provide information as needed to government to ensure reimbursement of program expenses
- Engaging with government officials on safety-related matters, working in collaboration with the Farm Safety Consultant
- Leading the application of future funding opportunities
Community & External Engagement
- Identifying and building relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations (e.g. 4-H, Ag in the Classroom MB, Manitoba commodity groups, Glenlea Research Station, CASA, other provincial safety associations)
- Ensuring program relevance and impact through engagement with farmers, including through the leadership of the Farm Safety Advisory Council
- Developing, in partnership with KAP staff and third-party contractors, seasonal promotional campaigns to educate the public and remind farmers of best practices
- Coordinate and attend events such as summer agricultural fairs, Progressive Farm Safety Days, MB Ag Days, MB Winter/Summer Fairs, and farm open houses
- Seek opportunities to create and deliver interactive demonstrations to new partners and audiences
- Collaborate with KAP staff to support existing safety and outreach initiatives
- Supporting the delivery of front-line safety activities where applicable
- Organizing events and training opportunities for Manitoba farmers, including the exploration of funding opportunities to support these initiatives
Education & Qualifications
- 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in education, outreach, or community engagement, with preference in the agricultural sector
- Experience leading budgetary planning and organizational priority setting
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Willingness to work flexible schedule including weekends as many events occur outside of regular hours
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within Manitoba
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with community organizations
- Knowledge or experience in farm safety is an asset
- Current designation or willingness to pursue safety certifications (e.g., RRC Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety; CRSP or CRST designation)
- Interest in learning Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health legislation and its application on farms
Working Conditions
- This is a hybrid or remote work flexible role. Office space provided with natural light, elevator access, and automatic doors.
- Interacts with employees, management, board, farmer members, and the public.
- Overtime may be required depending on event schedules.
- Travel may be required throughout Manitoba.
