The Opportunity
MML is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its Finance team on an 18-month contract.
Reporting to the Director, Finance & Accounting, this role will provide analytical and operational accounting support within a dynamic construction environment. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of financial activities, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, audit support, working capital management, and process improvement initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including consolidated financial statement reporting
- Analyze financial results against budgets and forecasts and collaborate with departments to identify trends and variances
- Support internal and external financial reporting requirements and ad hoc financial analysis
- Assist with the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls
- Support the development and management of financial controls in accordance with company procedures
- Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis and insights to senior management
- Assist with working capital management and cash flow forecasting
- Complete statutory and company-specific filings, including HST returns, payroll filings, and bank reporting
- Assist with policy development, administration, and process improvement initiatives
- Mentor and support finance team members while contributing to operational efficiency
- Support and cross-train within Finance department processes
- Perform other duties as required
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
- CPA designation preferred, or actively enrolled in the final stages of the CPA program
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including full cycle accounting responsibilities. Experience within construction, mechanical contracting, or a related industry is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as financial regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work well under stringent time constraints and respond to changes in priorities
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
- Computer literacy with accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Compensation Overview
This is an 18-Month contract position. Expected base salary range: $95,000 to $115,000, aligned to experience and scope of responsibility.
