Port Charlottetown is offering a unique opportunity for a motivated and curious student to join our Marine Operations team. As a Marine Operations Assistant, you will gain firsthand exposure to cruise port operations while being mentored by experienced industry professionals. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to develop their skills, contribute to a collaborative team, and explore career pathways in tourism, logistics, and marine operations.
What You'll Do:
- Shadow and support the Terminal Operations Manager in the daily setup of the Cruise Terminal, learning operational best practices and decision-making processes.
- Work closely with both internal departments and external partners to understand real-time port operations and stakeholder communication.
- Participate in team discussions and provide feedback on improving port services and visitor experience.
- Learn how to apply and maintain world-class operational standards during cruise ship calls.
- Collaborate with different departments to enhance the guest experience for cruise passengers.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing information from cruise lines and other ports to support strategic planning.
- Help design and implement an organized file management system for the busy cruise season.
- Perform a variety of tasks across departments to support a successful and efficient cruise operation.
What We're Looking For:
- Proficiency in English; bilingualism is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- A willingness to learn, contribute, and receive mentorship.
- Organizational and time management skills; comfort with multitasking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
- Willingness to work outdoors and perform physical tasks (standing, lifting, bending, etc.).
- Availability to work weekends and evenings, especially on cruise days.
- Basic computer and file management skills.
