POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Guard provides assistance to patients, staff and visitors by responding to code calls, conducting investigations, security patrolling, providing coverage for the parking lot attendant and performing administrative duties.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists patients, staff and visitors.
Guards/protects patients, staff and visitors and physically restrains violent persons.
Arms and disarms the Fire Control System.
Escorts staff and visitors to the parking lots.
Escort people to pathology/morgue.
Verifies the physical security of CHEO property through patrols, door checks and responding to calls for service.
Responds to code calls including: elevator occurrences, stat calls from the units and alarms in Physical Plant.
Conducts initial investigations (e.g. thefts, motor vehicle collisions, suspicious persons / activities, animal control, CHEO policy incidents, safety/ security and fire risks).
Enforcement of parking regulations and the Trespass to Property Act on CHEO property.
Performs the duties of the parking attendant (as required).
Monitor/maintain the video surveillance systems, access control system and responds to alarms.
Write reports and enter incident details using approved software.
Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate / departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Private Security and Investigative Services Act and regulations
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in Law and Security or Police Sciences (Essential)*
Minimum two (2) years of related work experience. (Essential)
A valid Ontario Security Guard License (Essential)
Superior communication skills, oral and written (Essential)
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills (Essential)
Demonstrated conflict resolution skills (Essential)
Non-violent crisis intervention certificate (Preferred)
Fall prevention certification (Preferred)
Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
Bilingual (English/French) (Preferred)
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic/experience requirements.
- Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 4109. This position will be based out of Ottawa; location may be subject to change at any time at the discretion of the employer. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre-screening. Pre-screening might include testing.
Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.
Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
