Position Description

We are looking for a Operations Manager, Damp Sand to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Production, the Operations Manager, Damp Sand is accountable for overseeing multiple sand mining, processing and handling sites in Western Canada, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive operations. This role provides hands-on leadership for field teams while managing production planning, scheduling, material flow, and operational performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in aggregate, sand, mining, or heavy materials operations and has a proven ability to lead dispersed teams, optimize material movement, and drive operational excellence across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across multiple frac sand and aggregate production sites in Western Canada, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards, operational continuity, and consistent production performance.
  • Direct material handling and processing activities including extraction, stockpiling, screening, classification, loading, and transfer operations to achieve production, quality, and yield targets.
  • Manage operational equipment performance and plant availability by coordinating equipment utilization, maintenance activities, and downtime reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and manage production schedules aligned with customer demand, inventory targets, and delivery commitments while monitoring KPIs and driving continuous operational improvement.
  • Champion a strong safety and environmental culture through compliance with OHS regulations, company policies, environmental permits, reclamation requirements, and water management programs.
  • Support safety audits, incident investigations, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance initiatives across all operating sites.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, operators, and support staff through recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, and accountability-focused leadership.
  • Manage operating budgets, consumables, fuel usage, and capital planning activities while identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.

Who You Are

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline or a combination of training and experience that results in the required level of knowledge, skill and competence.
  • Must be fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Must have minimum of valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Minimum 5-10 years related experience including at least 5 years' experience leading facility and/or onsite operations.
  • Significant operational experience gained in the mining, energy, aggregate, sand, or heavy materials industries.
  • Familiarity with maintenance planning and equipment management systems.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement or operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Ability to work and travel approximately 25% of the time.
  • Ability to think outside the box and create innovative solutions to problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • An ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams while supporting conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • The successful candidate will need a high level of initiative and require a low level of direction.
  • The ideal candidate will reside in or near the Stony Plain area of Alberta.
