Position Overview
The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) serves as the first point of contact for patients and is a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of interprofessional healthcare providers, including mental health clinicians, pharmacists, and dietitians. This team works together to increase access to primary care and enhance the quality of life for patients. The MOA ensures smooth clinic operations and supports patient care through efficient administrative, clerical, and basic clinical support as required. This role involves patient-facing responsibilities, scheduling, and coordination tasks within a busy, team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative / Clerical Duties
- Schedule and coordinate all patient appointments using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Greet patients upon arrival and promptly notify clinicians of their presence.
- Maintain patient records and manage incoming/outgoing documents, including mail, faxes, and messages.
- Attend internal and organizational team meetings as required.
- Participate in problem-solving initiatives to enhance patient care.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and professional work environment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and protect patient privacy.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of a Medical Secretary Course, including medical terminology and pharmacology.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a family practice or primary care medical office preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) required, Telus PS preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), email, and internet research.
- Experience in telephone triage and appointment booking preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work effectively in a busy office with multiple professionals.
- Professional, articulate, and team-oriented with the ability to multi-task effectively.

- Familiarity with local community resources.
Work Environment
Morton Medical Centre is a patient-focused family practice office committed to high-quality care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting. The MOA plays a critical role in ensuring smooth clinic operations, facilitating patient care, and contributing to a positive patient experience.
